CARDS SPLIT HOME & HOME The Cardinals played a home and home with the Mudhens this past weekend with the home team earning the victory in each game. The Cards won on Friday by an 8-3 score while the Mudhens avenged the loss by topping the Cards on Sunday night by a 4-1 margin. The pitching of Andrew Schwalm, Billy Lawrence and Chris Cooney did not allow a run in the Friday night game. The three runs the Hens did put up came in the 3rd inning as they capitalized on some control issues from the Cards most overworked pitcher Jason Saker. After having pitched so effectively and reliably all season long it was almost a relief to see that Saker was human. On the offensive side of the ledger it was a huge night for Tim Barnes who swatted a bases loaded double to break the game open. Barnes finished the night with 4 RBI’s. Dave Kerr also laced a couple doubles in the game and drove in a key run fairly early in the game to put the Cards in the drivers seat. On Sunday the Cards looked to be continuing their momentum as the game started off with the Red Birds loading the bases with nobody out in the first. Unfortunately a Russ Pereira sac fly was the only offense the team could muster in that inning, and for that matter the rest of the game. They hit the ball hard all game but just couldn’t find any gaps in the Mudhens defense this night. Billy Lawrence threw another two innings of shutout ball before giving way to Kent Barber. Barber pitched great, allowing two unearned runs in his two innings of work. Russ Pereira came in for the 5th and 6th allowing two more runs on the strength of some solid Hens hitting. Of note in this game was yet another injury to the Cards as Tim Barnes badly pulled a hamstring. This edition of the 30+ Cardinals team seems to have the relative health status of most long term care facilities in the worlds poorer countries. After witnessing (and participating) first hand the raccoon like scavenging this team does in search for food and drink after each game it is no wonder that players are falling like a house of cards. Let’s hope the Cardinal bats can starting instilling the same fear in opposing pitchers as they do to a bag of Cool Ranch Doritos. |

| THANKS TO OUR SPONSORS! | 'ALL IN' FUNDRAISING |
| The business of baseball is not cheap and we truly couldn't compete without the help of our sponsors. Thanks to the following for lending an invaluable hand: Rhonda Sparks R.M.T. |
On April 3rd Tim Barnes hosted a Texas Hold 'em Poker tournament where half of every wagered dollar went to the team. Let's hope the performance on-field this year is far better than the terrible poker play that was witnessed that evening. |

| On July 11th the BVB will be hosting it's 3rd Annual Golf tournament and have selected Carlisle Golf Club to play host. The tournament has been a huge fundraising success for the league and the nationals program in the previous two years and everyone's support is appreciated at this event. Steve Maher and Jeff Gilleland have been a part of the winning foursomes the past two seasons. That said, while scores are handed in, players come out to have some laughs, beers and good times with the boys and not take things too seriously. |
